I just remembered a story. It just so happens to be the reason I'm doing so much of what I am now. Adopting children and worship leading specifically. After a little clinic session, Derek Loux told Director (at that time) Rusty that I should start a set. "Get him started," He said.  That was enough encouragement for me, despite a lot of lack of maturity and skill. No, it's not an anniversary of Derek's life, birth, death or anything like that (that I know of). I am reminded of the desire inside of me to have a wake of influence that glorifies God.  It may not look the same as Derek, but his passion, commitment and boldness to speak what he believed about children and orphans, music and Jesus was motivating for me.  I know there are many who live in the wake of Derek... ...who lived in the wake of God. As I mentioned in the part I, I was not looking for kids or planning for a family, but left a prayer meeting convinced that adoption was my next step...and my desire for children only grew as we progressed in our foster training. // As we engaged in our classes, I really didn't have a country to adopt from I was set on...many of our friends do.  China, Vietnam, Russia, even the USA.  These are all awesome.  I didn't have an inclination, neither did Sarah really.  Kind of like the little girl dreaming of the wedding in her future, many dream of their future adoption, and I was kind of disappointed in myself: I didn't have a 'dream country.' Testify. In 2008, Sarah and I attended a day-long prayer meeting.  It was kind of an event for us.  We spent time fasting and praying before that, praying together and getting ready the best we knew how. During a portion of that meeting, we focused and prayed for children, namely orphans and those who needed adoption.  While praying, it was very obvious to me that God was calling me to be an adoptive father. Kids were definitely not on my radar...I mean, seriously, we were DINK-ing it.  It was a fun time in our lives, both Sarah and I finally working full-time, owning a little house.  Yes, kids is the next  step, but it wasn't really on my mind. So, there I was.  Three people around the room came to me after the meeting and said they noticed me and began to pray for me specifically about adoption  while we were praying for these orphans.   The third person was Sarah, my wife. Oh, how to ail the lack of blog posts? Well, post a link to another blog, of course. This past Sunday, Sarah told me she heard a track from kids' Sunday school that she really enjoyed.  So, I found the album and purchased it. Wow, how exciting: a blog post about accounting.  Eww. If you're still reading (thanks), hear me out.  I was recommended early on in business and ministry to begin to tracking my milage and expenses for tax deduction.  One coworker of mine said that one year his tax bill ended up being a tax refund because of his tracking of expenses. Sales guys know this stuff.  Ministry guys should know this stuff.  Musicians: using your gear for ministry?  It's deductible.  Do you volunteer at church?  It's a lower rater per-mile, but there's a deduction for that, too.  Keep track, and Uncle Sam doesn't get mo' money than he deserves. So, now, how to track it all?  For the last years I've used a printed out excel sheet  that I found, and kept track there.  That worked...about 25% of the time I wrote down my milage.
