Planner in my pocket

I just got a new phone...the blackberry pearl, actually. It's quite distracting if I let it be. Since the big blue store just opened here in Cincinnati, I haven't had much time to play with it, until today. I'm learning a bit about it. I can get email anywhere now...now I wonder if I can blog from it, too. Hmm....

Anyways, that's a small update. We're re-doing a lot in our house right now (like the big ugly mantle that we just threw away.) Sarah's having a good time picking out some IKEA things, and some other not-so-new things online here.

Lots i'm learning lately: how to not be so hard on me...and how to die by living. When problems arise, I tend to think "oh, well, I guess it's time to quit playing guitar/job/friendships...etc." Ever think this way? Die to live. That means that I keep all the responsibilities, and just learn how to live those out, serving those in which i'm involved with, not quitting. That's not dying. For me, quitting is giving up (at least, right now.)

What is twitter, anyways? Oh well, blackberry first.

    That's funny- I almost got the Pearl (in the pretty pink) but after fiddling with it in the store, I decided it was way too much phone for me. Have fun with that though! I much prefer that style as opposed to the flip.

UDPATE 1/21 OK - well, out of more responsibility  I had to figure out a legal  way to put mp3's on my son's simple mp3 player he got for Christmas this year (it's a $30 one from amazon...) Advertised as a kid-friendly player, I knew the features included a 'drag and drop' feature for mp3's.   Now that Apple has gone the way of 'music' the instructions below (original post!) are basically ancient history, but I'll leave them here for anyone who might want to refer to them. New instructions for 'freeing your freegal' music are as follows. First, I am assuming that you are using an app on a mobile device to 'download' the music to that device. 1. download music (3-7 songs a week for most folks on Freegal) to your mobile device. 2. connect your mobile device to a real computer  (sits on a desk or your lap, you know). 3. open up Finder or Open Device (depends on your platform) 4. find "Files" (on iPhone) 5. find the Freegal app

A great guitar teacher told me that the best way to improve "play by ear" (or ear training) was to transcribe songs.  So, that is what I've been practicing.   When I find a song I like that isn't really out there on the interwebs, I like to share my work in transcribing.
