That they may be one

Image
I have a theory of what is going on in the church today. 4% of my generation is actually attending a regular church service and claim christianity as their religion. This is compared to a 40-something-% of our parents' generation. Many of our generation (1983 to the year 2000, as generation is defined by 18 years) really doesn't get the religion-thing very well. I think we get love, but not religion, routine of church for the sake of having a routine. Jesus prayed for unity in his prayer in gethsemane. The one disciple who stayed awake during that time must have written that one down. His prayer "that they may be one". Look at Christianity on Wikipedia.com sometime and you can see that we have issues. Here's an example of what happened to the protestant church: So, we have some family issues. As soon as denomination mom and dad have an issue, they get divorced. The kids have an argument about who sits where, they don't speak to one another any longer....

Self Discipline

I'm learning self discipline in my life currently. Practice is important for musicians, athletes and artists, but also professionals, public speakers, baristas and everywhere in between. Self discipline can be defined as doing the things we don't feel like doing. As the musical type, I can fall into this trap of 'feelings' - which are many times fleeting. We also cannot live off of adrenaline or inspiration; at least I can't. There's not enough juice in inspiration to keep me going for a month or a year. Usually, after the first couple days, i've lost the inspiration. Check out the football inspiration: Inspiration and talent will only carry you so far. The habits you form will sustain you. One fall, in the panhandle of Texas, the local high school football team was enduring a terribly embarrassing season. Week after week, the hometown would show up and cheer to no avail; it was abysmal. Finally, a wealthy oil man could take it no longer. The week befo...

For the Teachers

I received this email this morning. I decided not to e-bomb everyone with it, as it is against my personal email convictions. "After being interviewed by the school administration, the prospective teacher said: 'Let me see if I've got this right: 'You want me to go into that room with all those kids, correct their disruptive behavior, observe them for signs of abuse, monitor their dress habits, censor their T-shirt messages, and instill in them a love for learning. 'You want me to check their backpacks for weapons, wage war on drugs and sexually transmitted diseases, and raise their sense of self esteem and personal pride. 'You want me to teach them patriotism and good citizenship, sportsmanship and fair play, and how to register to vote, balance a checkbook, and apply for a job. [:D] 'You want me to check their heads for lice, recognize signs of antisocial behavior, and make sure that they all pass the final exams. 'You also want me to provide...
http://www.wannaplaymusic.com Check this website out, and recommend it to any kids wanting to play music. I believe this is a great wave of music movement. Get kids playing music, change lives, help them in emotional development. That's the movement.

A Call To Sobriety

I listened to a talk while I was painting the banister last night. The message really sobered me up for the events of the day. Based out of the book of Joel, Allen Hood gives some intense, practical understanding to our call to raise our children knowing the truth of God's character, to focus on the Lord as our true provider. Sometimes God's relationship with us looks different than the one He has with our nation. Hmm. I would write more, but you can just listen for yourself. http://media.ihop.org.s3.amazonaws.com/a881b236-c6ec-4417-98fa-45a1d522b6a5.mp3 DC

Whew. What a month. Many things have happened in this past month. Let me see... 1) Our little Ember left our family to join her bio-grandparents on the 7th of this month. We were able to prepare our hearts and her belongings before she left, including written letters for later in her life. For a couple days after, Sarah and I were sad. God answered our prayers, however: we prayed for His will to be done, and wanted to align our hearts no matter what the decision may be. After three days of random crying and emotional ups and downs, we were fine and excited to remember her. We pray for her a lot and I believe God has a great purpose for her life...her story is already so beautiful. (Ember's last night with us. She wouldn't sleep unless she was on my shoulder that evening. Odd, or God?) 2) [the day after...] We received a call from a foster mom the next day asking us about respite care (foster-care babysitting). We didn't know, but the foster care workers were alrea...
