Children Are Not Hyphenated Humans

Image
This is an excerpt from a rough draft of our monthly newsletter. If you'd like to receive our monthly newsletter or join our support team, click here ! This month I'm reflecting on a meeting we had with a foster family where we reflected on the stigma that our culture applies to children in foster care. Especially in the ‘foster care world’ of mentoring relationships and foster care support networks, there are a lot of diagnoses - legitimate concerns about children that have been neglected or abused or have been at risk at any point - and it often is the topic of conversation when foster care comes up.  Sarah and my approach has always been that the children in foster care are children first.  During our meeting with this foster family, they let us know that it was a great comfort to them to remember our perspective as a family. It's easy to get worked up emotionally about the injustices in foster care and how they affect real people. There are so many, and t...

Adoption Sermon, Join Our Team

I was invited to share our heart of adoption at our home church, Missio Dei. Despite sounding like a chipmunk on the recording, I think the point comes accords. The Desire of God's Will and Nothing Else in Our Occupation

Image
*I jotted this post down last week as I ate breakfast.  If you've found this, may it encourage you in your journey. Let me know your thoughts about occupation and calling in the comments...what's your journey and understanding been as you journey in this life? "Every child of God is not called by the Lord to establish schools and orphan houses and to trust in the Lord for means for them. Yet, there is no reason why you may not experience, far more abundantly than we do now, His willingness to answer the prayers of His children." - George Müller I'm Serving God, Right? Some years ago, before we had any children - a friend of mine invited me (David) to a recording studio in town, he'd told me to bring a song that I'd written. I only had a couple days to prepare, and the pressure of having a song - of which if only written one or two at the time - pressed me into a pretty reflective place. The chorus' lyrics: "It's the way yo...

Creative Partnerships - Make Adoption (continue to) Happen

Image
So, our family has taken a pretty big step out in faith and ministry work, turning our home into a family that brings in orphans and (sometimes, eventually) adopts them for good when we're given the chance.  We've been supported in faith, by faithful supporters like you who give to our ministry.  We're looking like we're going to expand here in the next couple months. I've been thinking about specific needs we have each month, and came up with a little list of creative partnerships.   You can help us make permanent homes for children by joining our team. Creative partnerships: How can you partner with our family ministry of adoption? Chap-de-training Partnership   Diapers :  $45/mo. Keeper of the Flame Partnership Date night:   (including sitter for 5-6 kids):   $75 Protien Partnership Milk & eggs :  $92/mo Fill Our Tank Partnership   Fuel :   $175/mo. Feeding The Masses   ...

Modern Day Partnership - We're so "Mod"

Image
Check out our snazzy profile. We've begun a partnership through a great organization called Modern Day Missions .  Their calling: to send laborers to the field, streamlining the administrative side of things (which some of us spend 2-3x the amount of time working on because it's not totally  our gifting, when we have to...some of us...)  Modern day creates an easy avenue for giving, their interface is simple, secure and straight-forward.   Go check out our profile here.   If you'd like more information about the work we do, just email me so we can setup a phone/in-person meeting - I'd enjoy the opportunity to share with you the work in prayer meetings and adoption support we've been doing. For those of you who are monthly partners, our monthly newsletter (Aug/July-in-review) will be out shortly.  Thanks so much for your generosity and faithfulness!  We're sustained in our efforts to equip the Church of Cincinnati to pray and adopt th...

You are My Rock (Recording for reference))

Well, it's been awhile, but I wanted to post a video of a song I've recorded.  The chord chart is found here: http://therecyclebin.blogspot.com/2012/03/you-are-my-rock-you-are-my-refuge.html And now video, with less-than-stellar audio (doing my best...) is found here: "You Are My Rock" Demo-Cover To help me along the journey to better audio, feel free to click the "Donate" button and I'll be getting a interface and microphone for recording more! Stay tuned for "Fragrant Burning" by Derek Loux and some other song videos via my YouTube Channel. David

Quick Recording: The Joy of Being Lovesick

Image
A few years ago I posted a chord chart for a song by  Luke Wood  called "The Joy of Being Lovesick" - (or, at least that's what I assumed it was called). Upon a couple requests in the comments, I made a quick recording of this song where you can see the chords I'm using.  I did not capo the song (as the chord chart states) but you can capo and transpose however you would like.  Questions? Just comment or email me at: davidrchapdelaine[at}gmail[dot}com Maybe I'll do this more often.  Feel free to request songs.

The Departure of Rockstar Worship Leaders

Two months ago my friend Alex shared this blogpost with me. There is a difficult divide for the modern musician when it comes to the role of a "lead musician" in the body of Christ, and a tempting 'Rockstar' attitude for those who lead The Church in singing praises to God.  Mostly, cues are taken from the worldly model of band leaders showing off and accepting attention from those attending concerts. Take a look at bro-Don Chapman's perspective of the 'changing of the guard' in present day worship in America. http://www.churchleaders.com/mobile/worship/worship-articles/170929-don-chapman-rock-star-worship-leaders-are-getting-fired.html The danger? That we would do the same as the fallen angel, and turn to receive praises of the body, attempting to steal from God what will be eternally due to Him.  He will be praised, and we are foolish to think that we will be successful in this stealing. [God, empty me of all sin in this area, that Your Church would prais...

Advent and The Jesse Tree

Image
Myra's (2) take on creation When Sarah and I got married, I wanted to continue a Chapdelaine tradition of observing Advent (or "the Arrival") with daily devotional reading, candles and songs.  We began with a few accent candles in a circle that we received for the celebration of our marriage and I began looking for a reading list of stories we could track God's story with.  I landed on 'The Jesse Tree,' something I really hadn't heard of before my google search. So, since then we've used some form of The Jesse Tree to observe Advent.  Here's the webpage I began with: The Voice, The Story of the Jesse Tree: http://www.cresourcei.org/jesse.html#Jesse%20Story Now that we've added children, I found out that symbols aren't enough for kids to pay attention.  So, I looked around this year for a coloring sheet that we could use so the kids could be involved in every day's reading.  Lots of pages revealed "pay-for" ...

Link for giving...

I know my page/blog has been bare.  Forgive me.  I realized that our link for giving has changed a bit. Short Prayer for the Day/Season:

Lord, show me ways I've developed bad personal-theology and show me Your truth instead.  Deliver me from every kind of religion and 'Christian-superstition.' Amen.

Prayer is never lonely, but feels alone on a human level...

...and then God puts people in your path that pray.  And then I realize I'm not the only person praying for our city. Walking into Battle, David
